Latchley's Farm, Essex

Latchley's Farm is a mediæval moated site near Steeple Bumpstead, Essex. The moated site measures 270ft by 260ft. The moat is kept waterfilled by a spring. A 16th-century brick-built bridge gives access to the island, which is occupied by an L-shaped house dating from about 1520. Although no longer visible at ground level two fishponds are situated to the south-east of the moat and connected to the moat by leats. The manor of Latchley's is considered to have been associated with the family of Henry de Latchelye in 1310. The monument is within the council area of Braintree (Essex).
