Lansdowne Hill, Hampshire

Lansdowne Hill is an urban area in Southampton, Hampshire. The 'hill' area is that of the motte of the former Southampton Castle. The name dates from the purchase of the site in 1805 by John Henry Petty, later 2nd Marquis of Landsdowne, and his construction of a Gothic mansion (known as 'Landsdowne Castle') on the motte. It is within the council area of Southampton.
