Lansbury, Middlesex
The Lansbury estate is a large historic housing estate in Poplar, Middlesex. The estate was developed from 1949 on a site badly damaged by bombing. The new estate became the ‘Live Architecture Exhibition’ of the Festival of Britain. The Church of St Mary and St Joseph (1954), designed by Adrian Gilbert Scott, is notable for its elongated and tapered round parabolic arches. The area is within the council area of Tower Hamlets.
