Lamport Hall, Northamptonshire

Lamport Hall is a 17th-century country house in Lamport, Northamptonshire. In 1655 Sir Justinian Isham commissioned John Webb to design a large two-storey home, replacing an earlier house. Major additions were to the south-west front and the north were completed in 1741. The gates on the main road (1824) were designed by Henry Hakewill. Sir Charles Isham is credited with introducing garden gnomes to Britain when he brought a number of terracotta figures from Germany in the 1840s for his rockery. The house is within the council area of West Northamptonshire.
