Lambert's Castle, Dorset

Lambert's Castle is a large univallate Iron Age hillfort near Marshwood, Dorset. It is in the care of the National Trust. The hillfort has a rampart 25ft wide rising up to 10ft above the base of the 14ft wide and 5ft deep external ditch. It was built along the edge of the escarpment and across the level ridge at the southern end. It has an internal area of about 11 acres. An annual fair was held inside the hillfort each June, possibly from the mediæval period, until the late 1940s. It is within the council area of Dorset.
