Laleham, Middlesex
Laleham is a village in the Spelthorne area of Middlesex, on the River Thames. Domesday records it as 'Leleham'. The poet Matthew Arnold was born in the village and is buried in the churchyard of All Saints' church, which dates from the 12th century. Laleham Abbey (formerly Laleham House), rebuilt in 1806 for the 2nd Earl of Lucan, is neoclassical with a Doric portico. The village is within the council areas of Spelthorne district and Surrey county council.
