Knottingley, Yorkshire
Knottingley is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. It lies on the River Aire and was once an inland port and centre for boat building. After 1870, the town became known for glass manufacturing. It forms a contiguous urban area with Ferrybridge to its west. Oliver Cromwell took residence in the town during the three sieges of Pontefract Castle. The town is within the council area of Wakefield.
