Knole, Kent
Knole is a large 15th-century country house and and former archbishop's palace, located near Sevenoaks, Kent. In 1456 Thomas Bourchier, Archbishop of Canterbury, purchased the 12th-century estate of Knole. Under Bourchier's influence, an older mediæval manor was transformed into a house that probably resembles an Oxford college more than a typical stately home. It is situated within Knole Park, a 1,000-acre estate. It is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Sevenoaks (Kent).
