Knightsbridge, Middlesex

Knightsbridge is a former hamlet that is now an urban area lying partly in Kensington and partly in Westminster, in Middlesex. The origins of the area are obscure though the 'bridge' is believed to refer to the crossing on the River Westbourne on the road from Westminster to Kensington (the location now of the Albert Gate of Hyde Park). Until the 19th century Knightsbridge remained a hamlet along the stretch of this road that is now known as Knightsbridge Road. The area was developed from around 1800 and is now known for its high property values and high-end retail. It is within the council areas of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.
