Kirkham, Lancashire

Kirkham is an ancient market town in Lancashire. It lies on the Fylde coastal plain. Carr Hill is the site of Roman fort. It appears in Domesday Book as Chicheham and described as lying on the Roman road between Ribchester (Bremetennacum) and the River Wyre. The town's market charter was granted in 1269–70 by Henry III. From the 17th century the town grew into a textile centre. The town is within the council area of Fylde (Lancashire).
