Kingsteignton, Devon
Kingsteignton is a town, lying at the head of the Teign estuary in southern Devon. Founded in the early 8th century, Kingsteingnton was at the centre of a vast Saxon Royal estate. The Manor of Kingsteignton remained a crown demesne until the 13th century. Primarily an agricultural village, by the 19th century it had developed a key industry in pottery and pipe clay mining. The village underwent rapid growth from the mid-20th century, transitioning into a busy town. Notable landmarks include the 15th-century Church of St Michael (C of E) and the mediæval Fairwater Leat. The town is within the council area of Teignbridge (Devon).
