Kingstanding, Staffordshire
Kingstanding is an urban area in the Great Barr area of Staffordshire. The name is derived from the Neolithic Bowl Barrow (the King's Standing) in the area. Charles I supposedly reviewed his troops standing on the barrow on 18 October 1642. From ancient times the areas was part of the Perry Barr division of the ancient parish of Handsworth. It remained a rural area until the 1930s, during which it saw large-scale local authority housing development and is now usually considered to be part of the larger Great Barr suburban area. The area is within the council area of Birmingham.
