Kinbane Castle, Antrim

Kinbane Castle is a ruined late mediæval castle, located on Kinbane Head in the townland of Cregganboy, County Antrim. The main surviving masonry is the tower at the south angle, two stories high with good detail visible. Beyond was a walled enclosure, partly defended by the steep cliffs and partly the wall. There are traces of at least two gun-loops north-east of the tower. Reputed to have been built by Colla MacDonnell around 1551, traditionally it was used until the mid-18th century. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
