Kilnasaggart Pillar Stone, Armagh

Kilnasaggart Pillar Stone is an 8th-century inscribed pillar stone, located close to the ancient route through the "Gap of the North" from Meath to Ulster, in the townland of Edenappa, County Armagh. The inscription on the pillar’s south-east face records the dedication of the place by Ternohc son of Ceran Bic under the patronage of Peter the Apostle. Ternohc’s death is recorded in the annals at 714 or 716. There are three crosses on the south-east face and ten on the north-west. Excavation in 1966 and 1968 uncovered an Early Christian cemetery with both stone-built and dug graves near the pillar. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
