Killyleagh Castle, Down
Killyleagh Castle is a historic castle, with 12th-century origins, located in the village of Killyleagh, County Down. It is within the townland of Corporation, in the civil parish of Killyleagh. Norman knight Sir John de Courcy built fortifications on the site of the castle in 1180. The castle and surroundings lands were given to James Hamilton during the Plantation. Hamilton established the village as a port. The castle, redesigned by the Sir Charles Lanyon in the mid-19th century, remains in the Hamilton family. It is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
