Killowen, Londonderry

Killowen is an urban area, lying on the west bank of the River Bann in Coleraine, County Londonderry. It is within the townland of Churchland, in the civil parish of Killowen. Around 1609, the Clothworkers Company was awarded the land on the west of the River Bann and developed the Waterside and Killowen areas. Killowen Parish Church dates to 1814 and was built in a Georgian Gothic Revival style. The previous parish church, just north of the present church, is reputed to occupy the site of an 11th century monastery. St John's Church (RC) dates from 1834. The area is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
