Kerswell Priory, Devon

Kerswell Priory is a former Cluniac priory and country house at Kerswell, Devon. The priory was founded between 1119 and 1129 as a cell of the Cluniac Montacute Priory in Somerset. At the time of its dissolution in 1538 only two monks remained. The country house which occupies the site of the north, west and east ranges of the priory is believed to date from the late 16th-century, with 17th- and 18th-century alterations. The building includes a re-sited 12th-century stone doorway. South of the house are the ruined remains of the 15th-century refectory. The site is within the council area of East Devon (Devon).
