Kearsley, Lancashire

Kearsley is a town in Lancashire, lying on the west bank of the River Irwell, to the east of Farnworth. The town developed during the Industrial Revolution with cotton mills, chemical works, an iron foundry, a quarry and several coal mines. From 1894-1974, for local government purposes, it formed the basis of Kearsley urban district. St Stephen's Church (1871) was the vision of Harrison Blair, owner of a local chemical works. The town is within the council area of Bolton.
