Katesbridge, Down
Katesbridge is a hamlet, lying on the north-east bank of the River Bann in County Down. It is within the townland of Shannaghan, in the civil parish of Newry. The hamlet is named after the 18th-century Kate McKay's Bridge over the Bann. Kate herself is believed to have owned the house where the workmen building the bridge lodged. The settlement itself gradually developed over the 19th century. Katesbridge Presbyterian Church opened in the late 19th century. Shanaghan Orange Hall dates from 1913. The village is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
