Itchen, Hampshire

Itchen (formerly Itchen Ferry Village) is a former fishing hamlet that is now an urban area in Southampton, Hampshire. Itchen lies on the east side of the River Itchen and took its name from the fishing boats that were also used to ferry passengers across the Itchen. The hamlet was incorporated into the municipal area of Southampton in 1920. The hamlet sustained massive damage from air strikes in the Second World War. It is within the council area of Southampton.
