Isleworth, Middlesex
Isleworth is a town in Middlesex, on the River Thames. It is listed in Domesday as 'Gistelesworde'. By the 19th century, the town had become a centre for orchards and market gardens and as a favoured location for the mansions of the wealthy. The 20th century saw considerable urban development. From 1894-1965, for local government purposes, it formed part of the Heston and Isleworth urban district (municipal borough from 1932). All Saints' Church has a 14th-century Kentish ragstone tower. Syon House, with its famed interiors by Robert Adam, is the residence of the Duke of Northumberland. The town is within the council area of Hounslow.
