Inverness is the county town of Inverness-shire and the northernmost city in the United Kingdom. It is considered to be the Capital of the Highlands. The city stands at the north-eastern extremity of the Great Glen, where the River Ness enters the Moray Firth (its name coming from the Gaelic Inbhir Nis meaning mouth of the Ness).
