Inch Abbey, Down

Inch Abbey is a ruined Cistercian abbey, located on the north bank of the River Quoite in the townland of Inch, near the town of Downpatrick, County Down. The abbey was erected by John De Courcy in around 1180 on the site of an Early Christian monastery. It was dissolved in 1542. The ruined buildings, including the church, are mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
