Hyde, Cheshire

Hyde is a town in Cheshire. The town largely developed during the 19th century based on the cotton industry. From 1881-1974, for local government purposes, the town formed the basis of the Hyde municipal borough. Hyde Town Hall (1995),designed in the neoclassical style and built in red brick, dominates the market place. St George's Church (1832) is constructed in stone with a slate roof, in the Gothic Revival style. The town is within the council area of Tameside.
