Huyton, Lancashire

Huyton is a town in Lancashire. Huyton is listed as Hitune in the Domesday Book of 1086. The town grew in the 19th century, based around coal mining and quarrying. From 1895-1974, for local government purposes, it was part of Huyton with Roby Urban District, along with its neighbouring village of Roby. During the 1930s, four large Liverpool 'overspill' estates were constructed in the district, to the north-west of Huyton. The town is within the council area of Knowsley.
