Hurst, Lancashire

Hurst is a suburban area in the north-east of Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. The ancient parish of Hurst contained villages including Higher Hurst and Hurst Brook. The parish became the basis for the Hurst urban district in 1894. The urban district was dissolved in 1927 and the area was included in the Ashton-under-Lyne municipal borough, since when it has come to be considered part of the town of Ashton-under-Lyne. It is within the council area of Tameside.
