Hungry Bentley, Derbyshire
Hungry Bentley is a deserted mediæval village in Derbyshire. The monument includes the earthwork and buried remains of the abandoned mediæval settlement and part of the associated open field system. Hungry Bentley was mentioned in Domesday as `Beneleie', belonging to Henry De Ferieres. It is unclear why the settlement was deserted but the Black Death, a change from arable to pastoral agriculture and a deteriorating climate may have been contributory factors. It is within the council area of Derbyshire Dales (Derbyshire).
