Hoylake, Cheshire

Hoylake is a seaside town in Cheshire, at the north-western corner of the Wirral Peninsula. Hoylake developed in the 19th century from fishing village of Hoose. The name, originally referring to the area of sheltered anchorage known as the Hoyle Lake, became attached to the developing town and eventually in the name of Hoylake urban district (1894-1974). The Hoylake and West Kirby War Memorial was designed in 1922 by Charles Sargeant Jagger. The town is within the council area of Wirral.
