Howdon on Tyne, Northumberland

Howdon on Tyne (often just Howdon) is an urban locality to the east of Willington Quay in Northumberland. Howdon on Tyne was an industrial settlement on the north bank of the River Tyne estuary, to the north of Howdon Pans (a Tyne water feature). Whilst East Howdon is a still a recognisable industrial and residential area, most of the western parts of Howdon have been demolished, the area now forming the northern toll area of the Tyne Tunnel. The name 'Howden' is now usually used to refer to the largely 20th-century development north of the main railway line. The area is within the council area of North Tyneside.
