Hove is a seaside resort town in Sussex. Until the 19th century, Hove was a small coastal village of a single street (now Hove Street). St Andrews Church dates from the 12th century (restored in 1836). During the 19th century the seafront of the entire ancient parish of Hove was developed, starting with the construction of the Brunswick estate in 1821. From 1894-1974, for local government purposes, the ancient parishes of Hove and Aldrington were the basis of Hove urban district (municipal borough from 1898). The County Ground, Hove has been the home of Sussex County Cricket Club since 1872. Along with the neighbouring town of Brighton, Hove forms the city of Brighton and Hove. The town is within the council area of Brighton and Hove.
