Houghton-Le-Spring, Durham

Houghton-Le-Spring is a town in County Durham. The earliest mention of the town is in the Boldon Book in 1183. The parish church of St Michael and All Angels dates back to Norman times and contains the tomb of Bernard Gilpin, known as 'the Apostle of the North'. Houghton Feast is an ancient festival held every October in the town. The town is within the council area of Sunderland.
