Hotwells is an urban area in the west of Bristol, lying on the north bank of the old course of the River Avon (the Floating Harbour) in Gloucestershire. The area is named from the hot springs which bubble up through the rocks of the Avon Gorge. In the Georgian era, Hotwells was developed as a spa including the building of Dowry Square (1727-1750) and Hotwells Water extensively bottled and exported. The area is within the council area of Bristol.
