Horden Hall, Durham

Horden Hall is a manor house built in the mid 17th century located in County Durham. It is located just to the north of Horden village near Peterlee. The building is thought to have been built for Sir John Conyers and likely incorporated from a former 13th-century tower house, which may have been rebuilt in the fifteenth century. This was demolished in the late 16th century and replaced by the Hall. Historical records related to the site include a license to crenellate granted to Marmaduke fitz Geoffrey in 1260, and the Widow of William de Claxton received a license for a private chapel in 1411. Horden Hall is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. It is within the council area of County Durham.
