Hopton Castle, Shropshire
Hopton Castle is a ruined mediæval castle situated in the village of the same name in Shropshire. The castle may have originated as a 12th century motte and bailey castle, built by one of the Hoptons as a mesne lord of the Says of Clun Castle. During the 13th century, the bailey was fortified in stone and a rectangular two-storey keep built. The castle was in ruins by the early 18th century but was partially restored in the early 21st century. The castle is within the council area of Shropshire.
