Holloway, Middlesex

Holloway is an urban area in the north-west of Islington, Middlesex. The area developed as three hamlets (Upper Holloway, Lower Holloway and Ring Croft) along the road from Islington to Highgate ('Le Holeweye in Iseldon', now Holloway Road). By 1800 a few villas were appearing, but large-scale suburban development began from the 1840s. At the centre of Holloway is the Nag's Head commercial area, with Upper Holloway and Lower Holloway now forming residential areas to the north and south. The former Ring Croft hamlet has become part of Lower Holloway. Since 2016 Holloway has been the location of the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC. The area is within the council area of Islington.
