Hindley, Lancashire
Hindley is a town in Lancashire. The town was first recorded as Hindele in 1212. It became a centre for mining and cotton manufacture from the 17th century. Leyland Library and Museum, designed in a Free-Elizabethan style, dates from 1886. The Bird I'th Hand public house and the Lord Nelson Hotel have 18th century origins. The town is within the council area of Wigan.
