Hinckley, Leicestershire
Hinckley is a large town in Leicestershire. Hinckley has a history going back to Anglo-Saxon times. A market was first recorded here in 1311. In the 17th century, the town developed a hosiery industry, producing stockings and similar items. Hinckley is a traditional centre of the hosiery industry. Castle Street is the first known location of 'Luddism', where disgruntled workers, replaced by machinery in their jobs, took sledgehammers to the machines. The town is within the council area of Hinckley and Bosworth (Leicestershire).
