MenuHilltown, Down
Hilltown is a village, lying on the west bank of the River Bann in County Down. It is within the townlands of Carcullion and Cleomack, in the civil parish of Clonduff. The village was founded by the Hills family around 1766. It grew around the linen trade, using the River Bann for flax processing, and hosted weekly markets for livestock. St John's Church (1771), designed by architect Charles Lilley, was the focal point of the Hilltown community. The Church of St John the Baptist (RC) was opened in 1805. Hilltown Presbyterian Church was built in 1829. The village is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
