Hillingdon, Middlesex

Hillingdon is a suburban village in Middlesex. It now forms part of a more or less contiguous suburban area with Hayes to its south-east and Uxbridge to its north-west. It is listed in Domesday as 'Hillendone'. It was still a rural village well into the 20th century, during which it became increasingly suburbanised. The church of St John the Baptist was built in 1629. Hillingdon Court was built in 1858 by Sir Charles Mills as his family home, a large area of the grounds now forming Hillingdon Court Park. The village is within the council area of Hillingdon.
