Hilden, Antrim
Hilden is a former mill village, located on the west bank of the River Laggan near Lisburn in County Antrim. It is within the townland of Lambeg South, in the civil parish of Lambeg. William Barbour transferred his family's thread linen business to the site in the 1820s. He had Hilden House built in 1824. By the end of the century Barbour's Linen Thread Company was the largest mill of its kind in the world. The company built a model village for its workers. The mill closed in 2006. The mill village survives, supplemented by 20th century suburban development. The village is within the council area of Antrim and Newtownabbey.
