Highbury, Middlesex

Highbury is a suburban area in the north of Islington, Middlesex. An ancient manor, the name is thought to date from 1271. From 1271-1540 the manor was the possession of the Knights Hospitallers in England, after which it became a crown property. The area began to be developed from around 1770, being almost fully built up by the end of the 19th century. Between 1913-2006 the area was home to the Arsenal Stadium, home of Arsenal FC. Highbury Fields is a 30-acre area of open space, surrounded by Georgian and Victorian townhouses. The area is within the council area of Islington.
