Hetton-le-Hole, Durham
Hetton-le-Hole is a town in County Durham. Whilst the history of the Hetton area can be traced back for up to a thousand years, the town grew as a mining village in the 19th century. The Hetton Colliery Railway was the first in the world to be intentionally built for steam locomotives, Bob Paisley, the Liverpool football manager, was born in the town in 1919. The town is within the council area of Sunderland.
