Herstmonceux Castle is a 15th-century brick-built castle near Herstmonceux, Sussex. Construction began under Sir Roger Fiennes in 1441 and was completed in 1449 by his son, Lord Dacre. It is considered one of the oldest significant brick buildings still standing in England. The castle was the location of the Royal Greenwich Observatory from 1957-1988. It is within the council area of Wealden (East Sussex).
