Hemsworth, Yorkshire

Hemsworth is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. Hemsworth was an agricultural village which became a coal mining town during the 19th century. St Helen's Church was largely rebuilt by John Loughborough Pearson in the 1860s, retaining some mediæval features. Cricketer Sir Geoffrey Boycott attended Hemsworth Grammar School and captained the First XI. The town is within the council area of Wakefield.
