Hembury Castle, Devon
Hembury Castle is an Iron Age hillfort near Buckfast, Devon. The fort is situated on Hembury Hill, the watershed between the Holy Brook and the River Dart. The hillfort survives as an elliptical enclosure internally defined by a rampart, partially buried ditch and counterscarp bank. Inside the fort, is an 11th- or 12th-century motte with a surrounding narrow inner bailey. The ramparts of the earlier hillfort may have been used as the outer bailey of the castle. It is within the council area of South Hams (Devon).
