Hay Mills, Worcestershire
Hay Mills in an urban area in south-east Birmingham, lying east of the River Cole in the Yardley salient of Worcestershire. Hay Mill lay on a mill race off the river and belonged to the occupants of Hay Hall. It dates from at least 1495. The mediæval Hay Hall is extant. The area became industrialised from the 1850s when James Horsfall, a piano-wire manufacturer, bought the mill and converted it to steam-power. Horsfall also built St Cyprian's Church (1873).
