Haverton Hill, Durham

Haverton Hill is a former village that is now urban locality in the east of Billingham, County Durham. A small hamlet at the start of the 19th century, Haverton Hill became a thriving industrial community following the development of the salt extraction industry. Further growth followed when shipbuilding and the chemical industries located in the area. Concerns about air pollution led to the houses being demolished during the 1960s and 1970s.
