Harepit Way, Wiltshire

Harepit Way is a prehistoric linear boundary, stretching for about 380yds on West Down near Beckhampton, Wiltshire. The monument appears as a pair of parallel banks with a central ditch. The ditch is 16ft wide and up to 5ft deep. To either side of the ditch the two banks are about 10ft wide and 1ft high. The earthwork may originally have formed part of a Bronze Age ranch boundary, as part of a wider system of land division on the Downs. This section was later used as a mediæval trackway and has been known as Harepit Way for at least 250 years. The monument is within the council area of Wiltshire.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1014559.
