Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire

Hardwick Hall is an Elizabethan prodigy house near Ault Hucknall, Derbyshire. It was built between 1590 and 1597 for Bess of Hardwick, the richest woman in England after Queen Elizabeth. The house was conceived as a conspicuous statement of her wealth and power. It was designed by Robert Smythson. It is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Bolsover (Derbyshire).
