Hamstead, Staffordshire
Hamstead is a suburban village between Handsworth Wood and Great Barr in Staffordshire, lying on the River Tame. Historically part of the ancient manor and parish of Handsworth, Hamstead is a former mining village, Hamstead Colliery having operated from 1878-1965. St Paul's Church dates from 1892. The area saw substantial suburban development in the 20th century. The village is within the council area of Sandwell.
